Pipe
Band Wins Competition for Fifth Year in Succession
In the annual Scottish Independent Schools CCF Pipe Band
competition, held
on Sunday 13 June at Merchiston Castle School, Dollar's Pipe
Band once again achieved outstanding success. Individual performances
led to trophies; the Best Drum Corps and Solo Piping aggregate
competition brou ght
cups, but most significantly, the Pipe band won the competition
overall, with The Edinburgh Academy and Stewart's Melville
College in second and third places.
Dollar's achievements in winning the competition for the
fifth year in succession is on a par with that of Heriot's
in the late 1960's. The level of the competition this year
was very high, and the success of the Band brings great credit
to the members of the band, the ir
parents and supporters, and to Mr Craig Stewart, Mr David
Methven and the instructors who have worked long hours with
the group.
In the early 1990's Dr Robert Cumming, who was a Governor
at the time, invested time and energy in ensuring that the
Band would be successful. Even he could not have imagined
just how much his enthusiasm would have been repaid by the
Band's success throughout this century. The level of expectation
remains high, but it is based on hours of practice and dedication
from everyone.
